The Commodores Volleyball Team kicks off its season this week and looks to have another successful season. After two consecutive state championships, the Commodores are searching for that historic three-peat, despite a big senior class last season.
Notable players such as Mabry Eason, who won Miss Volleyball for 5A. Caroline Crockett and Ava Mooneyham were also key pieces of this Commodore team.
Despite this, the Commodores still return many key players. Senior Maddie Vollbracht has been one of the key players in this Lafayette dynasty, earning valuable playing time over all four years of high school. Senior Lizah Holland is the returning Libero for the Commodores and brought a leadership presence to this young team. Junior Carson Ball is also returning as an outside hitter for the Commodores. The ball returns great versatility, being used for multiple positions, and is coming off a productive season with the Commodores.
When Holland says what she brings to the table this year, “ Bringing energy, since my sophomore year starting at Libero. I’ve brought energy and would like to continue that into my senior year.”
The Commodores finished last season 27-10 overall and were undefeated in district for the third time in four years. The Commodores also bring alumni and former player Juliana Ingram as an assistant coach.
The Commodores are currently 2-4 overall after a hard-fought loss against powerhouse Lewisburg. They plan to bounce back this Tuesday on the road against Alcorn Central.
Holland also expanded about expectations, “I expect us to grow, obviously the season has started rough, but we will continue to grow as we practice and the season goes on, and hopefully we’ll get that three-peat this year. “
