Lafayette started out this football season with a bang. To kick it off in a jamboree, Lafayette gets a refreshing win against New Albany. Following that, Lafayette doesn’t let Woodale score a single point with a final of 51-0. These recent games have made the team and fans very optimistic about this season.
However, on September 5th, Lafayette lost against Saltillo 42-14. Lafayette had a great time running the ball. Lafayette managed 200 total yards rushing and 39 total yards receiving. The 14 points came from a receiving and a rushing touchdown. There is also a lot of potential coming from sophomore wing-back, McClain Corban, who had a 30-yard punt return.
There is lots of suspense for The Cross Town Classic is next week. The feud between Lafayette and Oxford is getting hotter as the days pass. Oxford beat Collierville in their first game. The score was 39-36 going into overtime. The tie-breaker came from Oxford with a 48-yard field goal. Fans from the county and city can’t wait for this game to happen. The week after that, Lafayette plays against Lewisburg in Olive Branch. Lewisburg won its first game against Mitchell. Mitchell is a team from Memphis, TN. The score of that game was 44-26. Following that game, Lafayette plays Hernando at home. Hernando began its season with a win against Overton High School. Overton High School is also in Memphis. Next up, another Memphis team is Pure Academy who Lafayette plays at home. Pure Academy won their first game 24-7 playing against Brighton Highschool. After that, Lafayette plays New Hope in Columbus. New Hope beat Ohatchee 43-32. The week after Lafayette plays against West Point. West Point played against Starkville on September 5th. The final was 48-15 with West Point taking the win. Columbus plays against Lafayette next. Columbus lost against Tupelo 34-0 and won against Houston 18-6. Lafayette plays against Caledonia on Halloween. This is also Senior Night for Lafayette. Columbus lost their first game against Itwamba Agricultural 27-16. The game before the playoffs, Lafayette plays away at Pontotoc. The Pontotoc season started September 5th against Houston. Pontotoc won with a final score of 37-6.
So far, there is a lot of potential for the Lafayette County Football Team. The fans have high hopes for the season and are determined to redeem themselves from their previous losing season. Lafayette started their season strong and is committed to trying their hardest.
