On Aug. 27-28, the Lafayette Elementary Schools hosted Coach Larry Calhoun from the Move to Learn exercise videos, along with a team from The Bower Foundation and the Mississippi Department of Education’s Office of Healthy Schools, to present a live event of Move to Learn.
Move to Learn is a fun way for students to be physically active while learning. The videos feature instructions for easy, kid-friendly activities that get them moving while teaching them everything from healthy habits and manners to shapes and counting. The 45-minute presentation was a demonstration of the free Move to Learn videos, which can be found either on YouTube or on http://www.m2l.tv for school districts with restricted access to YouTube.
On Aug. 27, Coach Larry Calhoun presented at Lafayette Upper Elementary School. Grades 3-6 attended the presentation at different times in the LUES cafeteria. 3rd-4th Grade had their presentation at 8:00 am, and 5th-6th Grade had theirs at 9:15 am.
Lafayette Elementary School attended the Move to Learn live event on Aug. 28 in the gym. PreK had their presentation at 8:30 am, 2nd Grade was at 10:40 am, Kindergarten was at 12:30 pm, and 1st Grade was at 1:30 pm. Students and staff were invited to attend the presentations to participate in activities to stimulate both the mind and body.
“I especially think the children enjoyed being able to be interactive and get up and move and not just have to sit and listen,” said Julie Gatlin, the Librarian at Lafayette Elementary School, “I had a blast. I love Move to Learn. I’ve used it for years back when I taught Kindergarten when it first came out and I think it’s a wonderful program.”
