The Lafayette Commodores took the win and dominated the competition for the volleyball state title in the thrilling game against the East Central Hornets Thursday afternoon at the Gillom Center. Before starting the game, Harmony Jackson was awarded Miss Volleyball, followed by Bentli Spicer being named Scholar Athlete. The Commodores played in their hometown, taking the home-field advantage. The student section was completely packed, further boosting the energy on the court.
The first set was a Commodore win as they led the whole time. They won the set 25-15. The second set was a nail-biter. The Hornets led the first half of the set, but the Dores fought and came back to win 25-21. The last set was dominated by the Commodores. They won the third set 25-15, sweeping East Central and claiming the state title for the first time in school history. The awards ceremony began after the match, where Harmony Jackson was awarded Most Valuable Player of the game. While accepting the award the student section cheered her on by chanting her name. The team then received the championship trophy and banner.
