Reed Jordan, 9th grade cross country runner, broke the Lafayette 5K record on the weekend of September 16, at the Saltillo cross country invitation, when he ran a 5K (3.1 miles) in 17:48. Reed beat the previous record, 17:51, by three seconds, after it had stood for over 10 years.

The cross country coach, Austin Howell, stated, “The whole team has been training a lot with mile repeats and 400 meter repeats to build up speed, and Reed is a great athlete that is able to get into a mental space to unlock and really go.”
Reed Jordan has been running cross country since the 7th grade and in his two years of running, is already breaking school records.

“I didn’t expect to break the record as a 9th grader, but now my goals are higher, and I’m shooting to set a record that can’t be broken,” stated Reed.
Come support the Commodores! The next cross country meet will be held this Saturday, September 23rd, in Tupelo.
