The LHS Theatre department has had an exhilarating year so far, preparing to compete at North Half, a theater competition held in Starkville, on the campus of Mississippi State. Last year at the judged competition, the group won North Half in the top three schools, as well as getting the award for the first time since before 1990. They performed Arthur Miller’s classic, “The Crucible”.

This year, the theater group aspires to progress even further in the competition, with Sarah Ruhl’s rendition of the Ancient Greek myth “Eurydice”. The play stars Madison Rodgers as Eurydice, and Brendan Madaris as Orpheus, and is directed by Mr. Louis Codling, who also teaches the school’s drama classes.

The show is full of elaborate costumes, makeup, sets, live music, and numerous talented actors and actresses, making this “the most potential we’ve had in a show for a long time” according to Kaylee Carpenter, a member in the show’s band.

In only a month of rehearsal, the actors in this show are no longer using scripts, and rehearse every week. The students feel more prepared than ever for their performance. The play will be performed in the LMS auditorium on November 9th, 10th, and 11th, and the show will go to competition in Starkville at the end of that month.
