CMG: Who am I here with today?
Mr. R: My name is Eric Robertson.
CMG: What do you do at Lafayette?
Mr. R: I’m the highschool principal.
CMG: Did you imagine you’d be a principal when you were younger?
Mr. R: No I did not, I went to school, I thought I’d be a financial advisor, that’s what I was majoring in. About halfway through college I started helping a highschool football team on Friday nights which made me change my major to education.
CMG: How is this school/job different from your other school/job?
Mr. R: Lafayette is a lot bigger than the most recent school I was at. I was at a private school in Batesville. But I retired from Madison Central, which is a lot larger than Lafayette. I was there for 5 years, then made the decision to retire. I would say that Madison and Lafayette are really similar, the only difference is size.
CMG: What is your favorite part about this job?
Mr. R: My favorite part is interacting with students and teachers. I love seeing our students succeed, whether that’s in the classroom, in band, on the stage in theater, or or the athletic field. I just enjoy seeing them grow and mature.
CMG: What would students be surprised to find out about you?
Mr. R: Maybe some don’t know that I coached at Lafayette for 13 years, so I spent most of my career or half of my career right here at Lafayette High.
CMG: How did you feel about highschool when you were a student?
Mr. R: I loved high school. I had a blast, I looked forward to going everyday and seeing friends. I loved playing sports, and just the everyday life of being around people. I grew up in a small town, I didn’t have a lot of neighbors so going to school was my opportunity to see my friends and to socialize.
CMG: How long have you been in this profession?
Mr. R: This is my 29th year.
