CMG: Who am I here with today?

T: Ryan Taylor, assistant principal at Lafayette high school.

CMG: Did you imagine you’d be a principal when you were younger?

T: No I didn’t, I actually thought to myself that I would never come back to school after I graduated. At 17 you think you have it all figured out, then you go through life and you know you don’t. Life has a way of surprising you.

CMG: How is this job/school different from your other job/school?

T: This is where I started my education profession, I was here for 8 years. I left for 5 years, took a job at Northwest Rankin. Left there, took another job at New Hope, but this was the place I always compared the other schools to. It’s special and a great place to be. I was very fortunate to be able to come back.

CMG: What is your favorite part about this job?

T: The students, just interacting with students, and hoping that you can help them. Maybe one day you see that student and they are… 25 and they get to tell you about their job or their family and hopefully you can say that you were part of leading them to a better future and made a difference in their lives.

CMG: What would students be surprised to find out about you?

T: I love NASCAR, that’s something I got into and when you go to a race you either like it or you don’t. I went and got hooked.

CMG: How did you feel about highschool when you were a student?

T: I was probably like a lot of you guys, I was tired of people telling me what to do, I didn’t want anyone to tell me where I could go and couldn’t go. I was the same way, I was a kid. As a kid, you think you know best, but you need to listen to people who have lived through it before, made mistakes, and learned from those mistakes.  I have people say  “you’re everywhere!” and that’s true but it’s because I was once your age and I can revert back to how I was as a teenager.

CMG: How long have you been in this profession?

T: This is year number 18.
