The upcoming Commodore swim season is jam packed with Varsity level meets all over Mississippi. Their first meet will be hosted by Oxford High School at the Turner Center on Ole Miss campus on August 26. As this is the first meet for many teams after summer workouts and training, swimmers are expected to show up and show out.

The next two meets are hosted at the Tupelo Aquatic Center by Tupelo High School. One of the biggest pools, it’s a favorite among swimmers. The Lafayette swim team will head down on September 5th and 12th.

The team will go against the best of the best at Starkville High School on September 26th, a meet exclusively for varsity teams. It’s a great time to see the talent these schools have to offer.

After one more meet at Tupelo on October 3rd, swimmers will compete at North Half in Cleveland on October 14th to qualify for State, hosted once again at Tupelo Aquatic Center on October 20th-21st. Class 2 teams will swim on the 20th, and Class 1 teams like Lafayette will compete on the 21st.

The swim team is coached by Coaches Stacey and Nick Raspo, teachers at the Lafayette Lower Elementary and High School, respectively. The coaches are also receiving some assistance from new coach Lynnie Liberti.

The coaches are expecting a great season this year, training for most swimmers to qualify for State. After last year’s season with no seniors, this year’s seniors are going to give their all and show off their years of experience. “I think our relays alone this year are unlike anything we’ve had in the past,” says senior captain Mary-Ellon Warren. “It’s going to be a great season.”
