This year, the Lafayette High School Dance Team is striving for excellence not only on the sidelines, but also through competitions.
As this team is going into its fifth season of dance, they have already accomplished many things. One of their most notable was being named as 2019 JV Game-day State Champions.
“We already won state in JV, so this year we are challenging ourselves by competing in the Varsity division,” Co-Captain Kate Riddle said. This is a huge step up from what they are used to, from only competing against a few teams to competing against over twenty of the best teams around the state.
The dance team has also expanded from eleven to fifteen girls making it the biggest team in the school’s history. They have gained “So many different, colorful, and powerful personalities within the group. It makes us amazing when we come together as one,” stated Captain Janiya Vaughn.
Because they have such a dynamic team like this, they are also excited for game days. To get prepared for such fun and spirited nights, they have been, “drilling the dances and cheers to make sure they are perfected,” noted Captain Grace Gatlin.
They have also been working on new things for the crowd. “Fans should look out for our new and interesting dances at pep rallies and games,” said Riddle.
Excited to bring new things to the table, the dance team is pulling out all the stops to be the best, look the best, and strive for excellence.
