After a challenging season, the Lafayette High School Cheer Team is heading into this season feeling more prepared and driven to success. Last season was full of ups and downs, but this season the cheerleaders are changing things up to ensure success.
Beginning practices in April, and attending UCA Cheer Camp over the summer, the cheerleaders came home with numerous awards. They received one gold ribbon on cheer and sideline, one blue ribbon on camp routine, and two fourth place trophies during the camp’s end of the week competition.
Senior Presleigh Loper said, “We have been working on higher level skills that we can showcase to the crowd. We hope this can make the crowd more enthusiastic seeing something new.”
Not only has the team been working on new skills for the crowd, but also for competition. From practices twice a week to gain new skills during the summer, to practicing three times a week during the school year. This helped give the team a head start for their competition routine.
“We paid for a choreographer which we haven’t done in several years. I feel like we are putting in a lot more effort this season,” stated senior Isabella Trott. Getting a choreographer will ensure the judges are seeing something new and fresh from this team.
“I think we will be able to actually compete with some of the bigger teams,” mentioned Loper. This will be crucial for success as the team takes on the state championships in December.
Sophomore Laurel Bossenbery shared her goals, including making top five at State. This would be the highest state ranking for any of the girls on this team. Setting such high expectations will take a lot of time and effort to achieve, but if this team stays determined they will be able reach all their goals and more.
