We had a lot of good things happen with our sports teams on September 2, 2021. For our girls and boys cross country team, we had some great wins. For the girls, Mia Dawson got second place followed by Maine Lund in 8th, Collyn Lewis in 12th, and Della Shackleford in 20th. Rounding off the top finishers is Sarah Kegley and Ella Shelton. In the end, the girls’ team won the 2nd place trophy.

For the boys’ team, Bralen Williams got 20th and Watson Williamson in 22nd. Wes Kilpatrick, Issac Delria-Reyes, and Tanner Browning were the last top finishers for the boys’ team. The boys got 8th place out of 29 other teams.

This race was a great kick-off to the upcoming 2021 cross country season.

Daisy Noble, a 9th grader and this is her first year running. When asked what was the thing you were most nervous about this meet and did overcome that nervousness once you started running responded, “I definitely felt nervous going into this meet because I am new to cross country and this was only my second 5k race. Starting out, I was still carrying some of that apprehensiveness with me, but I think it had mostly dissipated by the finish as I really found the feel of running.”

Also, Bralen Williams, a senior who has been running cross country since 8th grade. When asked did you meet or surpass any goal that you held for yourself or did you fall short of what you originally wanted and he answered with, “Well before the race my goal for the first meet was to break under 21 and I ended up in the mid 19’s, yes so I can say I surpassed my goal.”

As the season begins to move forward, the team will get better as time passes on.
