Lafayettes theatre program is back in season thanks to the lifted mask mandate, no more social distancing, and lack of Covid-19 cases in the Lafayette school district.

The theatre director, Louis Codling, has already set auditions for the upcoming play that will be preformed for theatre competitions,”The Civility of Those Who Wait ”. Mr. Codling has said that he misses doing productions during the fall and spring times.

“I am excited to get back into directing plays and musicals,” Codling says, “i believe that the theatre prgram in the school is bringing the musically talented students into something that they could also be into.”

“I have gone a very long year without being a part of a play or school musical and I am very excited to get back into it,” Sophomore Ava Noe says.

Mr. Codling has set up the auditions for “The Civility of Those Who Wait ” on Friday, August 27th. Many high school students are already preparing the monalouge needed for auditions. Auditions will be held in the Lafayette middle school auditorium.

Lafayette high school’s lifted mask mandate has allowed for after school rehearsal to be more practical and enjoyable for the student actors involved.

Covid-19 cases have gone down in the past 2-3 months to where a lot of things in the Oxford and Lafayette County area have opened up with no mask mandate issued by the state. Social distancing is not mandatory and has helped not only the theatre program but all sports and clubs at the school. In the 2020-2021 school year most sports and clubs were allowed and opened for the students to join and watch during and after the school day.

One thing that students have been surprised about the auditions coming up is that they don’t actually have to be in the theatre class to auditions and get a role. “I thought I had to be in the class,” Freshman Justice Grooms says.

Sophomore Abigail Lamphear plans on auditioning on the 27th and has said “yolo” about the auditioning progress.
