Hurricane Sally made landfall on Wednesday September 16th, moving a total of 2 mph. Sally hit on southeastern Mississippi, southern Alabama, and the western panhandle of Florida. The National Hurricane Center is predicting, “Historic, life threatening floods,” due to the rainfall of Sally. When Sally made landfall on the coast of Alabama and the western side of the Florida panhandle, the hurricane had already created a predicted 29 million dollars in damage. Sally will be remembered for its slow and erotic nature. The hurricane was moving at a speed of 2 mph with a maximum wind speed of 85 mph. With this slow movement it left people in bunkers for hours while they waited for it to pass. Authorities in Pensacola Florida says nearly 400 people were rescued by the flood waters this afternoon.
Many roads are impassable because of the amount of flooding. Ms. Coale, the mayor of Pensacola, has announced that the Pensacola county will be urging people to abide by the nightly curfew. More than 400 thousand homes and businesses have been left without power.
Some areas are still under a lot of damage from hurricane Laura. Laura was classified as a category 4 hurricane and hit Texas and Louisiana. Since Sally didn’t come very long after Laura some areas are having very little time to prepare for the immense flooding in eastern Louisiana and western Mississippi.
