The Lafayette Commodores will travel to South Panola to play the Tigers in the Jamboree today, August 16. This is the first outing for the Commodores since their disappointing defeat at the hands of West Point in the second round of the playoffs last season. The Commodores will be hoping to fix some

of the problems that plagued them last year, while also contesting with the loss of several key players.
The Commodores will be going into this year losing several important seniors, including linebacker and Ole Miss commit Eric Jeffries, running back Jamie Shaw, now playing for Northwest Community College, and four-star cornerback Brandon Turnage who, after multiple D1 offers, is now playing for the University of Alabama.
The team will be featuring some young talent in the starting lineup as well. Sophomore Tyrus Carmichael-Williams will be taking over the quarterback position as Randy Anderson will be playing a multitude of positions in a utility role. Junior Brendan Toles is expected to be given a much bigger role this season at wide receiver, being one of Carmichael-Williams’ main targets among fellow receivers Tabias Brown and Randy Anderson.
Lafayette’s offense, much like last year, is going to be anchored by the run game. Anderson is going into this season with 1508 combined yards and 18 touchdowns in only 178 carries and that’s at quarterback. Although most of Lafayette’s top running performers have graduated, they hope to replicate the lethality and speed of those players with the fresh faces they are instituting this season.
