Students are bummed because staff members at Lafayette Middle School are enforcing the rule towards cell phone usage. The cell phone rules are being enforced at the middle school more than ever.
Assistant principal, Clint Jordan at the middle school said, “Students think about who is posting what and where they can check their devices more than being engaged in class.”
The administration believes that children should not have their phones because it’s a distraction to instruction.
However, students are for and against the rule.
A student at the middle school said, “I don’t fully agree with it, I think that we should have our phones and be able to use them in our classes, I don’t think we should play on them or anything, but I think we should be able to have them in case like parents or something like that.”
The other students agreed with the no-phone policy, they say they think school is more important than your phone, and it’s a good rule to have.
It benefits the students and it’s not a punishment. According to Tablets-Textbooks.ProsandCons.org, “Handheld technological devices including tablets are associated with a range of health problems and devices have too many distractions for classroom use.” “Students are paying attention to apps, email, games, and websites instead of their teachers.”The rule has been applied to keep them educated and focused on school work, more than their phones.
