The Lady Commodores had an amazing start to their season with an undefeated record of 10-0.

The Commodores had a rough night trying to find a way to win against South Panola. Azariah Buford lead the team with 23 points. Senior Mariah Holland and junior Azariah Buford had a combined score of 21 of Lafayette’s 27 points in the first half.

Kimaya Dixon fell hard to the floor, going up for a rebound and seemed to have injured her ankle. Because of the injury, Dixon was not able to play for the remainder of the game.

The Lady Commodores were put to the test with South Panola and Dixon’s injury; however, they were still able to come out on top. They won 52-47.

The Lady Commodores played Minor at the Oxford High School gym in Oxford’s Charger Challenge on Nov. 19. The win boosted the Commodores to a record of 7-0 for the season. Azariah Buford had a team-high of 19 points and Kimaya Dixon followed with 16 points. They had a really good start, coming out and putting up 21 points in the first few minutes of the game. At the half mark of the game, the Commodores led 31-12.

After a great first half, the Commodores got a little jumbled up, which allowed the game to become closer.

However, the Lady Commodores were able to get back in the lead with a final score of 38-51 over the Minor Tigers.

The Commodores played North Panola on Nov. 27. The Commodores won the game 32-68. Kimaya Dixon led the team in scoring with 24 points and Azariah Buford with 12. The Commodores played an amazing second half, limiting the Cougars to only scoring 8 points.

They played Center Hill on Nov. 29 at Center Hill. Azariah Buford had the team high of 25 points and Mariah Holland followed with 20 points. Their final score was 67-46. They were holding on to a large gap in the fourth quarter, until Center Hill made it quite rough late in the game. The Mustangs started to get back in the game by shooting 3-pointers. Luckily enough for the Commodores, they were still able to win. This win advanced Lafayette to 9-0 on the season.

The Lady Commodores won against Ingomar 56-41. The Ingomar Falcons are one of the state’s top girls’ basketball team. This is the second time the Commodores have played and won against the Lady Falcons of Ingomar. They first played on Nov. 10 in the West Union

The Commodores gave the Lady Falcons their first lost of the season, winning with five points. Up until Thursday’s game, the Falcons had been undefeated. The Falcons losing to Lafayette made their record 12-2.

In the fourth quarter, Buford started to take over the game. Buford scored a game-high of 28 points and 9 of them came from the fourth quarter. The Commodores led by three points at the end the the third quarter, but Buford charged a 20-8 run in the final couple minutes of the game.

The Lady Commodores are hoping that they can continue to have an undefeated season. They are now ranked number 9 in the state of Mississippi.
